The Churchill is the best large globe option and the biggest handcrafted modern globe available for commission.

It is 127cm (50 inch) in diameter and can be made in any colour and with endless options of bases. It can be made in either the rotational style similar to our Albion globes, or with a traditional Floor Standing base.

The next size down are the range of style options in 80cm diameter.

Our smallest globe available is the 12cm Pocket Globe. These are super tactile desk globes on heavy solid metal bases. The heavy globe allows for an amazing spin on our signature ball-bearing bases.

The next size from there is our ever-popular 22cm Mini Desk Globe.

Our traditional style globes which spin on an axis – the Livingstone, the Britannia, the Galileo – these can all be finished in a matte, gloss or satin finish.

Over the years gloss has been more popular with these three styles but we love both.

Gloss really brings out colours but if you have overhead lighting in the room it will be in – or want to achieve a more modern look – you may prefer matte.

Matte is the only option recommended for all ball-bearing “multi-directional” globes due to the design. A gloss finish could mark up over time from sitting on the bearings.

The Britannia is 50cm and the The Galileo is 80cm – they are both floor standing globes.. it really depends on what size you prefer and how dominant you want the globe to be in your room. Please phone or email to discuss further base options and colour options.. we have done many variations. A helpful PDF here as well : Floor Standing Globes linked here.

We recently have added a 65cm diameter floor standing globe – perfect for those who feel the Britannia is too small and the Galileo too large.

Because a globe is round with no beginning or end, there are two imaginary reference lines from which all distances and locations are determined – the equator and prime meridian. Both the equator and the prime meridian intersect at point “0”, where all numbering starts with longitude and latitude lines.

Locations are uniquely identified on a globe by the point where the longitude and latitude lines intersect, i.e., Dallas, Texas is located 33º north (latitude) 97º west (longitude). Equator: Runs east and west around the exact middle of the globe.

Prime Meridian: Imaginary line running from pole to pole and passing through Greenwich, England. Longitude: Imaginary lines running parallel with the prime meridian through each pole and numbered in 15º increments. Latitude: Imaginary lines running around the globe parallel to the equator and are numbered at 10º or 15º increments.

Our 50cm, 65cm, 80cm and 127cm globes have the option of a traditional base. These have a full circle solid hand engraved brass ring called a meridian and they are numbered in degrees from 0º at the equator to 90º at either pole.

Originally, meridians were used to help locate positions on the globe as well as hold the globe in place within the base.

The Mini Desk Globes are 22cm and sit on ball bearings for a 360 degree spin. The Livingstone is 36cm in diameter and sits on a traditional base.

We make globes that spin 360 degrees in a fluid motion by hand in all sizes (12cm, 22cm, 36cm, 50cm, 65cm, 80cm and 127cm).

The larger the globe the more level of detail with the painting, the Livingstone has more washes of colour.

The Livingstone when on its original base has a gloss finish while the Mini Desk Globes have a matte finish. The Livingstone includes an option for a hand engraved message on the brass arm that holds to globe while the Mini Desk Globe has a copper plate in the base that can be engraved.

Mini Desk Globe is the name for all our 22cm globes that sit on bases with 3 semi-hidden ball bearings for a 360 degree spin.

The Albion is the name we gave to a slimmer base – which we think it has a more modern and contemporary feel while the thicker base is more traditional.

The Albion is available is a wide range of locally sourced as well as exotic woods and metals.

Sizing for the Albion Desktop Globes is 22cm, 36cm, 50cm, 65cm, 80cm and 127cm in diameter. Base woods available differ size to size but you can have any colour you see across any size when it comes to the globes and all sizes can be personalised.

We update our maps before every print. With each and every globe being made bespoke to order this is simple for us to do and part of our process.

We are always happy to answer any questions or concerns in the lead-up to your globe being made. When you place an order you will have an estimated delivery date – please request any changes 3 months or more before this date. You will be made aware of any deadlines and part of the process throughout.

Although the names or boundaries of countries can change due to wars or other political upheavals, most changes are simple name changes.

Globes can take between a few weeks to a few months to make and the map will be current at the time of printing.

After you place your order via our website with a deposit – we will be in touch with all details on the next steps and process ahead. This is done over email with a mocking up and approval process.

We create each globe in a busy working studio – so we are not open to the public day to day and we do not have a store or keep stock.

All globes are made bespoke to order, to arrange a meeting regarding a commission please contact jade@bellerbyglobemakers.com. If you are interested in a tour – please email to be notified of any future open hour events.

A small selection of Mini Desk Globes & Livingstone Desk Globes are available in the Great Writing Room at Harrods (they often sell out so best call ahead).

You can see a few limited edition / special edition collections at Linley. Sizes are 22cm, 36cm and 50cm.

Because we love the idea of your globe being made bespoke for you – we focus mainly on taking orders direct at our London studio. Off the shelf globes make up a very small percentage of what comes out of our studio.

Designed to last many lifetimes, we use only the finest quality materials. Our globes are made up from
durable plaster, resins, grp, solid brass, Schminke colour pigments, PH neutral glue, and sustainable wood.

If you are ordering a large globe, please make sure to open the wooden crate carefully. The globes are heavy, for the 80cm Curve definitely a very strong person or 2 to lift the globe on to it’s base.

Again using the 80cm Curve as an example, please make sure to lift the globe and place gently on to the base without hitting the globe itself against the metal corners. When moving the metal base lift and carry rather than drag.

For all globes – they can be cleaned with a DRY clean cloth. There is a protective resin or gloss but water is best kept off the globe. Remember that it is made of paper and hand painted.

All globes should be kept out of direct sunlight and away from wall or space heaters.

Treat the globe as you would any artwork – it is made to be touched but keeping it in the right environment will ensure it can be enjoyed by future generations and passed down as a pristine heirloom.

We also undertake artist commissions of all kinds.

Yes, a globe is a fantastic way to commemorate a special occasion or compliment a decoration scheme.
We can help customise colours, add a hand engraved message, add bespoke cartography and we do hand drawn and hand painted illustrations of all sorts.

Call the studio or email Jade on jade@bellerbyglobemakers.com to discuss.

A rotational globe sits on roller bearings allowing a fluid movement in all directions. An Axix globe had a fixed axis through the north and south poles which is usually attached to the meridian so that it will spin in one plane around the axis and another by moving the meridian which revolves fully around the table.

Options are endless. You will see colour options along with each listing under “collections” but more below –

Guides to bases and colours :

Any colour you see on any size can be done on any other size.

**There may be a small additional cost if you commission a globe in a colour that we have never done before, this will be so that we can test colours and send you options to ensure we create what you have in mind!

When it comes to cartography edits, travel routes and hand drawn illustrations – you will see a digital mock-up to feed back on before details are finalised on the globe itself.

The mock up will be in black and white so you can approve sizing, placement and style of illustrations.

You will either approve or request changes until we get everything as you imagined it.

Requests can come along with your order or up until 3 months before your estimates delivery date. To start the process – you can send through requests via email to Jade in list form i.e. –

1, Make the lettering of Paris RED

2. Add the date 10.10.50 below Berlin

3. Illustrate a Camel in Morocco

You are not damaging your globe by spinning it on the bearings and the there is meant to be a sound. This is the bearings we have chosen to pair best with our rotational globes.

These are the best available and designed bearings for purpose. The main ball the globe sits on is made of phenolic resin (like a snooker ball), and beneath there is a chamber of smaller (re-circulating) balls to enable the multi directional movement. This will create a sound ranging from gravelly (bass) to sandy (tenor), depending on the weight of the base and its dampening effect. Wooden bases for instance have a louder and higher pitch than metal bases. The heavier a base (and globe) is the more any sound is dampened.

The globes that have bearings are the Albion 360’s (all sizes), The Curve, The Whittaker – all bases where you can spin the globe in any direction unrestricted and lift the globe easily from its base.

We are a small team and making globes the old fashioned way (slow!) We tend to be booked many months in advance. It is advisable to plan ahead if you are wanting to purchase a globe for an upcoming birthday, anniversary or holidays 6 months to a year in advance. We think we are well worth the wait!

We recently also added a few pre-made “Quick Delivery” 22cm and 36cm Desk Globes. These globes do not have personalisation and cannot be personalised as far as the map. We usually have a handful of options of the most popular colours. Included in an order of one is an engraving on the disc which sits in the base. If you finalise your choice in colour (from what is available), base wood, and engraving we will aim to send out to you within days!

The ‘Quick Delivery Options’ can be found on our main website (linked).

Use the drop downs to see what colours are available.

Otherwise we suggest that you place a deposit on a size of globe and we can then send a really special gift card that lets them know something bespoke is being made specially for them. You can also offer someone the opportunity to “design their own globe” and have them work one on one with us to choose colours, the base and the personalisation. Click here to book in for a gift card – or email for more information on this.

** The Mini Desk Globes include an engraving on the copper plate that sits in the base. This is included in the price and holds up to 60 characters.

** The Livingstone Desk Globe includes a hand-engraved message on the brass arm of the globe. This holds up to 30 characters.

** 50cm, 65cm, 80cm, and 127cm globes in the traditional bases includes a hand engraved message around the brass meridian around the globe we recommend a commissioning mark like names, dates or favourite quotes.

** For an extra cost we can engrave the Brass, Aluminium, Bronze or Copper bases directly into the outside surface. Options are endless!

If you have ordered a globe already and have not sent through your engraving details, email jade@bellerbyglobemakers.com –

After placing a deposit on the size of globe you would like, we will be in touch to go through all the further options that might be available to you.

This will include :

  • Base finish (for example the Brass Albion can be brushed or polished)
  • Base style (for example there are many choices in style of leg for the Galileo)
  • Wood finish (for example an Oak base can have a natural finish or be stained darker)
  • The engraving – most bases hold an engraving – we will be in touch to discuss character limit and suggestions as well as any further information you need on placement and style.
  • Cartography edits (your commission will include 10 – 20 text based edits to the cartography)
  • Optional illustrations etc. (these are quoted on top of the price of the globe)

We include 10 cartography edits with our 22cm globes and 20 cartography edits with our 36cm and larger globes.

For more extensive personalisation please enquire when you place your order and you will receive a quote the same day.

Please check your engraving requests carefully before submission – we can’t correct once the work is done without an added cost.
The meridians are hand-engraved and to re-do requires carefully sanding back the Brass to re-do and holds risks, added costs, and extended completion times. For the coins that sit within the desktop globes, to remove also requires a re-finishing of the woodwork which has added time and cost.
Please if you have a change to your original request get in touch asap after you have ordered as we may have not yet completed your engraving and it is not an issue to change your request before the actual work has been done.
The script style, size and position has been carefully selected by our designers to perfectly complement our globes but you are welcome to discuss other options and suggested fonts and styles with us.

Check out the our YouTube.

We also share our process on Instagram and TikTok.

The 12cm Pocket Globes, 22cm Mini Desk Globes,  36cm Albions, and 50cm Albions as well as the Livingstone globes come in a bespoke flight case which makes for great gift-giving. The larger globes have handcrafted crates built to safely hold and transport them. Larger globes in Europe or the UK.. we sometimes hand deliver them ourselves!

The 50cm Albion hard case is optional. This is not recyclable and you should choose this option if you will use it for storage or moving. Otherwise use our wooden or cardboard crating for local delivery.

We ship direct from our London Studio, to almost every country in the world. Please get in touch if you are concerned about your location allowing shipment and to discuss any restrictions. Some countries like India have a long and detailed customs procedure, so a little patience and work on the customers side is required but we will help you along the way and make sure delivery is successful.

If delivery is to an address outside the UK, the price excludes Duties & Taxes which may be payable locally. This can include processing fees.

If you are sending a globe as a gift to someone outside UK we will need / use your contact number and email so that our carriers contact you & not the recipient for any duty & tax payments. In this case please be aware that you will also need to answer any delivery queries the carrier may have.
Some countries, such as (but not limited to): Canada, India, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Switzerland, Taiwan & Thailand** have a low duty-free threshold and all of our globes exceed this – meaning duties will be payable. Many countries also impose local taxes.

The good news for American customers is that our globe are “original works of art” and any payments required by authorities are very low (usually just a small processing fee via DHL or FedEx). There still is a process requiring contact with our carriers to release the shipment for delivery after it arrives.

**We cannot enumerate every case & we recommend checking with the relevant authorities locally if in any doubt.

We are unable to ship to P.O. Boxes.

Some countries require specific measures to ship to. Please enquire so we can help you.

Please note we do not cover taxes or duties or customs processing fees.

Our globes are one of a kind works of art which mean they should ship tax free to the US, though you will still be required to fill out paperwork to release your globe from customs if it is valued over $1,500.

If you refuse delivery or your delivery is returned to us because the shipper was unable to deliver – or you have not filled out customs paperwork in time – you will be responsible for all costs to re-ship.

Please make sure your shipping address is correct, we cannot guarantee that it is possible to re-direct an order once it has left us.

We ship fully insured at value, we cannot mark our globes at 0 value / or mark them as a gift to avoid taxes or duties.

We remove VAT for shipments outside of the UK.
